McLaren Bay Region Resident Receives 2015 Family Medicine Resident of the Year Award

The Michigan Academy of Family Physicians presented its Academy Awards during the Michigan Family Medicine Annual Conference & Expo held July 23-26 at the Grand Traverse Resort in Acme, Michigan. The Family Medicine Resident of the Year Award is presented to a resident who exhibits qualities of exemplary patient care, demonstrates leadership amongst his or her colleagues, displays a commitment to the community at-large, contributes to scholarly activity, and has dedicated his or herself to the specialty of Family Medicine through involvement in the Academy, service to his or her residency and other Family Medicine organizations.

Elizabeth Pionk, DO, of Bay City, MI, was awarded the Family Medicine Resident of the Year Award. Dr. Pionk has a B.S. degree in biology from Oakland University. In 2014, she received her Doctorate in Ostoepathic Medicine from Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine at the University of Pikeville. Dr. Pionk recently completed her first year of residency at McLaren Bay Region in Bay City. She currently serves as Resident Co-Chair of the MAFP’s Board of Directors, collaborating with other family physicians from across Michigan to address and achieve the goals of Family Medicine. She is an American Academy of Family Physicians delegate for Michigan, representing Michigan residents at the National Conference this year.

Dr. Pionk is a member of the Public Affairs Committee for the Michigan Association of Osteopathic Family Physicians. She also serves on the Board of Trustees for Perceptions Saginaw Valley, an LGBT non-profit community organization. This year she also served as a Resident Delegate for Michigan at the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians National Conference in Las Vegas, NV, and was the first resident in the history of the conference to sit on a reference committee.
