PRE-DIABETES: STOP DIABETES IN ITS TRACKS

McLaren Bay Region’s Diabetes Education Program will be offering a two-day seminar, Pre-Diabetes: Stop Diabetes in Its Tracks on Tuesday, August 25 and Tuesday, September 8 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. both days at the 400 South Trumbull, Bay City. (You must attend both classes.)

Who Should Attend? If you have a family history of diabetes; If you have a history of gestational diabetes or a baby weighing more than nine pounds at birth; If you have high blood pressure BP greater than 140/90; If you have low HDL, or high triglycerides; If you are African American, Native American, Asian American, Hispanic American or a Pacific Islander; If you have been told by a doctor that you have a “touch of diabetes” or have borderline diabetes; or if you are overweight.

Why Should You Attend? You can take steps to prevent type 2 diabetes from developing. Once you develop type 2 diabetes, it won’t go away, so it’s better to prevent it in the first place. (Pre-diabetes is a fasting glucose level between 100 and 125. A fasting glucose of 126 or higher means diabetes.) As you get older, especially if you are overweight, your chances of having pre-diabetes increase. Anyone over the age of 45 and overweight should be checked for diabetes.

You must attend most classes. There is a $25 per person charge for the entire session, payable at the first class. You must pre-register by calling McLaren Bay Region’s Diabetes Education Program at
