Event Description: This month, join SAM in celebrating the opening of Clear Seeing Place: The Encapsulating Canvases of Brian Rutenberg with a 2-hour painting workshop for all ages! Like Rutenberg's exhibition, the primary focus will be on the concept of abstract landscape painting, teaching participants how to simplify the complex relationships between shape, color, texture, and form. An elaboration of a "10-minute painting," this leisurely-paced class will also help participants appreciate the ideas of immediacy and abstraction through practice. The medium used will be acrylic paint on canvas, and participants will be able to take their creations home with them at the end! This activity is provided free of charge to children ages 15 and under, and is free with regular admission for anyone over 15 ($3 for students or seniors; $5 for adults). Please note that the number of participants is capped at 20, and that young children must be accompanied by an adult. As such, RSVP's are encouraged, though not required. To do so, please contact Eric Birkle, Associate Curator of Arts & Education at [email protected]. All art materials will be supplied by the museum. Certain materials may become hazardous if used improperly - always follow instructions given by staff leader. We hope to see you for an afternoon full of learning and fun. Saginaw Art Museum
